Indoor Water
Fountain Basic Information
No
External Water Source Required
Typical indoor water fountains do not require a dedicated water source. Instead, they contain pumps that pull the water from the reservoir
pool or bowl and continuously recirculate that water through the fountain. In almost all cases, the reservoir is built into the fountain
itself. However, a few of the free-standing fountain models
are designed to be placed in an existing pond or small pool. In those cases a basin can be purchased to make it a standalone
fountain. You do of course have to add water occasionally
to the reservoir to replace what is lost through evaporation, but it is no more work than watering your
plants.
**Update: There is a new optional filtering and auto-fill
system This system wouls be remotely mounted outside the fountain and would require
hookup to a customer supplied waterline. This is an optional additional feature
for those that want it.
Power.
The pumps on the fountains run off of electricity. While you may find some small novelty fountains that run on batteries,
most indoor water fountains will need access to an AC electrical outlet. Modern indoor fountains use very little electricity, no more than a
small lamp. If you tend to be a little more energy
conscious, you might want to take a look at solar powered water fountains for an alternative power
option.
Lighting.
Lighting is an option on many indoor water fountains. Lighting is an excellent
option for enhancing the visibility of the indoor fountain, setting the right romantic mood, or just adding a
little more light to a darkened room. Strategically planned lighting can also greatly enhance the visual
effect of your indoor fountain. The reflections of light gently riding on the waves of the flowing water
can be quite mesmerizing. Some fountains even use backlighting, underwater lights, or even colored lights to
create spectacular effects. If lighting is offered as an option, you may want to give it some serious
consideration.
Sound and Flow Control
In addition to the visual appeal, that you are looking for, one of the things that you
may want to give a little thought to is the type of sound that you want from your indoor water
fountain. Some fountain designs will sound like a gently
babbling brook while others will sound like rain. A
waterfall or a water wall will have a gentle splashing sound to go with the other sounds. Many fountains now give you the ability to adjust the speed of the
pump. Changing the speed of the flow of water can
dramatically change the sounds. Your flowing water fountain
can have a gentle rippling sound at low speeds, but more of a rushing sound at higher speeds. The sounds from a spray fountain may go from a light sprinkling rain
to a full downpour by adjusting the flow control. With
adjustable flow control, you can change these sounds according to your mood.
Remote Control
Everything these days is being designed with remote functionality and indoor fountains are no
exception. While it's not really necessary or, in some cases
even practical, some indoor fountains do come with a remote control. Depending on the type of fountain you get, this many allow you to turn your
indoor fountain, and its lights on and off as well as allowing you to adjust the flow control of the fountain
from anywhere in the room.
